Welcome to Scotts Bluff County, Western Nebraska
Come share the good life with us

Western Nebraska is a great place to bird. Where east meets west, we get many 'eastern' and 'western' bird species here.

We have a very diverse habitat, with pine covered hills that attract mountain species such as Red-crossbills, Pygmy Nuthatches, Cassin's Finches and others. Mountain and Eastern Bluebirds nest side by side in the Wildcat Hills where Common Poorwills, Yellow-breasted Chats, Lazuli Buntings, Pygmy Nuthatches and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers also nest.

Rivers, creeks, streams and several lakes, ponds and marshes in the area bring in many migrating and nesting waterfowl and shorebirds. Species such as American Avocets, Black-necked Stilts, Piping Plovers and many ducks nest in the area. Much of the land is agricultural land and grassland for prairie species such as Burrowing Owls, Mountain Plovers, Upland Sandpipers and Cassin's Kingbirds.

With all of this and great people too, you will want to come visit us soon in Scotts Bluff County.
