Native Americans Gathered for Treaty In 1851
In 1851, Plains Indians, numbering approximatly 10,000 representing 10 tribes met with government officials near Horse Creek to negotiate a treaty. Never in recorded history had so many gathered at one spot on the Plains. The purpose of the treaty was to ensure safe passage for those travelling on the Oregon Trail and to ease intertribal warfare.
As happened countless times, the government broke its part of the treaty almost immediately after it was signed. The Horse Creek Treaty Marker is 3 1/2 miles west of Morrill on Highway 26.
Horse Creek Annual Rendezvous Days
On the third weekend of July, Morrill celebrates its annual Rendezvous Days. A full day of fun and activities is shared by the community and friends. Everyone’s invited. Participate in the golf tournament, street dance or take a leisurely stroll on a walking tour. There are kids games to keep the youngsters active. Kick back and relax while watching the parade and live entertainment. Car buffs will love seeing the refurbished autos in the car show. To top all the days activities off be sure to enjoy the great food at the barbeque.
